Yes, I’m alive. But don’t get too excited. I’ve still got school on my hands. Just thought I’d share a track I stumbled across while screening/reviewing CD’s. It’s a Portland-based band, Canoe. They’re covering Neutral Milk Hotel’s “Holland, 1945″. The rest of the CD makes for a nice folky summer album in the vein of Sufjan Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Rosie Thomas, and Denison Witmer.
Daytrotter never fails to put out great live/in-studio sets. Death Cab’s is no exception. Finally, a non-acoustic version of “Cath” (which sounds like older Death Cab!) and a much better version of “Talking Bird” than what’s been floating around. There’s also some great takes on older stuff. Here goes the new ones:
It’s safe to say my school is not what you call a place hipsters and indie music enthusiasts like to flock. That aside, a friend and I have been involved with starting up an organization on campus geared towards bringing local and independant acts on campus. So far, as one could imagine, turnout hasn’t been anything to write home about.
I’ve got 4 weeks left in my last full-load semester of my entire college career, so I’m going to slow things down with the blog a little. I’ll stockpile emails and mp3’s still, but not as many posts are going up. Just thought I’d forewarn you. I need to catch up on some major homework I’ve slacked off on.
I’ve got all summer to build take this blog even further, so sit tight! I’ll do my best to keep ‘em trickling in at least. And I’ll keep the Death Cab posts to a minimum…maybe.
A Dance Hall Hips reader was kind enough to share a link to the first Death Cab bootleg to surface of their recent slew of shows. I’m still in the process of downloading it, so I haven’t heard it, but I’m excited! Here’s the setlist and a (hot)link to download it:
Still haven’t found any recent Death Cab bootlegs. I’m a little baffled none are up AND that a lot of the videos people have uploaded are just of older songs. Tsk Tsk. Here’s a live video of “Your New Twin Size Bed.” Sound quality’s lacking, but it’s certainly better than nothing. Are the verse’s structured a little like “Mmmbop” or is that just me?
I’ve been diggin’ around the internet for a bootleg of the Bremerton Death Cab show that went down a few days ago, but no such luck. I did happen to find a few videos of it.
One thing I have realized about the band’s newest material: it’s sort of bridging the gap between their old stuff and Plans, and I’m able to enjoy Plansa little more because of it…
The Decemberists and I have a weird rollercoaster of a relationship. Every six months I’ll call them up after coming across old polaroids, go out for drinks, become infatuated for a week, making love to them until I’m just plain sick of them.
Dance Hall Hips was established in December of 2005 on Blogger to share music with the world. DHH is dedicated to promoting both music of personal interest and that of independent artists seeking promotion.

Bandwidth
Sorry if you’re having trouble getting tracks due to my bandwidth exceding it’s limit. Not very professional, I know. Keep in mind, I am a 22-year-old college student, who’s only source of income, currently, is writing semi-weekly music columns. Groceries over bandwidth.
