Eels Lose the Super Bowl

Turns out Eels mastermind, Mark Oliver Everett (or ‘E’), was determined to promote the bands’ latest release, Useless Trinkets, a companion to their greatest hits album, during the Super Bowl. In order to do so he created a 1-second commercial, which equated to about $100,000 (if the timeslot were to be purchased); about as much as it would take to record an album. Needless to say, the NFL turned down the idea of a one-second commercial, due in part to the fact commercial time during the Super Bowl is bought in 30-second chunks. Here’s the commercial you won’t see:
