A few weeks ago I posted a clip/track of Grizzly Bear’s latest efforts, “While You Wait for the Others.” And now, as if the heavens have descended onto the earth, the band has performed another song off their upcoming release, this time on Letterman. It’s called “Two Weeks”:
Day one at Capitol Hill Block Party was quite the uncomfortable experience, for starters. I don’t think I’d be exaggerating if I said there was 10 times more people there than the first time I attended five years ago. I think it was a combination of Girl Talk and Vampire Weekend that drove everyone in, both of which ironically fell short of expectations. Girl Talk is not a mainstage (or really any sort of stage) musician; Vampire Weekends sounded mediocre in comparison to their album, which just so happens to also be mediocre. Definitely a bad closer in comparison to acts like Murder City Devils who killed the stage a few years back.
I managed to also catch United State of Electronica, Past Lives, the Dodo’s (my favorite of the night), Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head, Menomena, and Jay Reatard, who was awesome until I was shoved around by drunks who thought it was still cool to mosh.
Unfortunately my camera was dead for the first half of the concert, so I didn’t get photos, but I did manage to snap some once I made a quick run to the convience store for some batteries. Here’s what I got:
If you’re digging the latest Saturday Knights track I posted, and happen to live in the Seattle area, you’ll be happy to know you can catch them not once, but twice this Saturday. First, the band will be playing two songs at Top Pot for the Second Annual donut eating contest. Secondly, judging by the Stranger’s description of Capitol Hill Block Party’s Super Secret Special Guests, I’m near positive you’ll be getting another dose of TSK later that evening (Sat. 10:30-11:30p, Neumo’s Stage).
